A free two-hour workshop was held the next day at the cultural center, teaching attendees the basic melodic structure and lyrics of a traditional aurora.
Why Pola de Laviana?
- Asturias, Spain: While not as well-known for northern lights as some countries closer to the Arctic Circle, Asturias can offer decent views on nights with high solar activity. The lights can sometimes be seen in the northern parts of Spain, including Asturias, due to the Earth's magnetic field.
- Best Time: The aurora borealis is typically visible on clear, dark nights from late August to early April. The best time for viewing is usually between 10 PM and 2 AM.
- Dress Warmly: It can get very cold while waiting for and viewing the aurora, so dress warmly and bring blankets or chairs for comfort.
- Find a Dark Spot: Get away from towns and cities to minimize light pollution and maximize your chances of seeing the aurora.
- Be Patient: Be prepared to spend a few hours outside, as the aurora can appear at any moment.
