Quick guide to help you master your Baofeng UV-8R . This handheld radio shares its core functionality with popular models like the UV-5R and UV-82, making it a versatile tool for amateur radio. Essential Controls & Quick Start Power & Volume:
- Align the battery pack with the back of the radio (bottom first).
- Press the top of the battery toward the radio until you hear a click.
- To remove, push the battery release latch (at the bottom) and slide the battery down.
- Output power: 5W (VHF), 4W (UHF)
- Modulation: FM, DMR
- Sensitivity: 0.2 μV (FM), 0.3 μV (DMR)
- Selectivity: 65 dB (FM), 70 dB (DMR)
- Battery life: up to 20 hours (standby), up to 8 hours (transmitting)
- Enter the Receive Frequency (146.940) in VFO mode.
- Menu 26 (SFT-D): Set to
+(plus) or-(minus) for your shift direction. - Menu 27 (OFFSET): Set to
00.600(600 kHz). - Menu 13 (T-CTCSL): Set to your tone (e.g.,
100.0 Hz). - Menu 10 (R-CTCSL): Set to the same tone (or
OFFfor carrier squelch). - Press PTT to test. You should hear a repeater "tail" (a buzz or click) when you release PTT.
