- Disassemble: Remove the water tank from the base. Remove the tank cap.
- Descaling: Refer to your manual’s cleaning instructions. typically, you should fill the tank with a mixture of water and white vinegar. Let it sit for 20–30 minutes to dissolve mineral scale on the ultrasonic nebulizer (the small metal disk at the bottom of the base).
- Sanitize: Wipe down all surfaces with a mild bleach solution (1 teaspoon bleach per gallon of water) or a dedicated humidifier cleaner to kill any bacteria.
- Dry Thoroughly: This is the most important step for repacking. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe all surfaces. Allow the unit to air dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours. Ensure the nebulizer disk is completely dry.
- Use citric acid or distilled white vinegar.
- Soak diaphragm area for 1 hour, then scrub.
- Do not use bleach or abrasive pads.
- The Power Cord: Do not simply toss the cord into the box. Loosely coil the cord and secure it with a twist tie or velcro strap. If the cord is hardwired to the base, tuck it neatly into the cord storage area on the bottom of the base (if applicable) or coil it on top of the base padding.
- Removable Parts: If your model came with a cleaning brush or small attachments, place them in a small sealable plastic bag so they don't get lost inside the box.
- The Manual: Do not pack the manual loose. Place the manual inside the water tank (if the tank is inverted) or place it on top of the unit before sealing the box. If you have lost the physical manual, it is highly recommended to save a digital PDF version to your phone or computer before packing the unit away.
