- The Golden Era (8-bit & 16-bit): EmuELEC runs the classics flawlessly. NES, SNES, Sega Master System, and the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive run with near-zero latency. The Super NES emulation via Snes9x is particularly stable, even on lower-end hardware.
- The 3D Revolution: This is where device specs start to matter. EmuELEC handles the Sony PlayStation (PS1) and Nintendo 64 incredibly well on mid-to-high-end Amlogic devices. Dreamcast (Reicast) and Sega Saturn (Yabause/Beetle) are also supported, though Saturn emulation can be demanding on older chips like the S905X.
- The Handheld Legacy: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and the Nintendo DS are fully supported. The Sega Dreamcast’s handheld sibling, the Sega Naomi, is also playable on capable hardware.
For many, the true test of an emulation OS is how it handles arcade cabinets. EmuELEC supports a wide swathe of FinalBurn Alpha (FBA) and MAME cores. Amlogic EmuELEC is a Linux-based retro gaming distribution
