Formatter Silicon Power V.3.7.0.0 -ps2251-.162

Formatter Silicon Power v.3.7.0.0 (PS2251) is a specialized utility designed to recover or format USB flash drives using the Phison PS2251-03 controller

A "deep" wipe that bypasses the file system to fix controller-level corruption. Component Identification: Formatter Silicon Power v.3.7.0.0 -PS2251-.162

5.1 When Should One Use v3.7.0.0?

  1. The drive shows 0 bytes: You plug in the drive, and Windows says "Capacity: 0 bytes" or "No Media."
  2. Write Protection errors: You cannot delete or add files, and the drive insists it is locked (even though there is no physical switch).
  3. The drive is stuck at 2MB capacity: This is the classic "PS2251 safe mode." The controller has crashed but still identifies itself via USB Vendor ID (VID = 13FE) and Product ID (PID = 5200). The formatter is the only tool that can trigger a firmware reload.
  4. Corrupted Partition Table: Disk Management shows "Unallocated," but creating a new volume fails with "Cyclic Redundancy Check" or "I/O Device Error."
  • Diskpart interacts with the Logical Unit Number (LUN). It cannot communicate with the Phison 2251-62's microcontroller ROM.
  • Rufus requires the drive to have a valid MBR/GPT already. When a drive shows as PS2251-62 in Device Manager (under "Storage controllers" or "Unknown device"), Windows has no file system driver loaded.
  • The Silicon Power formatter sends a specific SCSI command (0xF1 for Phison mass erase) directly to the controller’s firmware. The controller then resets its NAND mapping table.
