Review: House of the Dragon S1 E1–5 (Story & Quality)
House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones, set 300 years before the events of the original series. The story revolves around House Targaryen, specifically during the reign of King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine).
- Paddy Considine’s Viserys: He is not a bad king. He is a good man who loves his daughter, but who cannot overcome the patriarchal system he was born into. His slow decay—physical and emotional—is gut-wrenching.
- The Time Jumps: The show jumps 3, then 3, then 5 years. This allows us to see consequences. Rhaenyra’s petulance in Episode 2 hardens into resignation in Episode 5. Alicent’s innocence curdles into manipulation.
- Dual Audio vs. Visual Storytelling: For international fans, watching in the original English audio or a high-quality dub is essential. The show’s language is Shakespearean. You need to hear Matt Smith’s growl or Olivia Cooke’s (later) whisper. Visual storytelling aside, the sound design of dragons, clanking steel, and the score by Ramin Djawadi is a character unto itself.
The production values are top-notch, with stunning costumes, sets, and cinematography. The score, composed by Ramin Djawadi, perfectly complements the on-screen action, transporting viewers to the world of Westeros. House of the Dragon S1 -2022- E1-5 Dual Audio -...
