HSK 1 Standard Course is the foundational curriculum designed to prepare absolute beginners for the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Level 1 exam. Developed jointly by Beijing Language and Culture University Press (BLCUP) Chinese Testing International (CTI)

What Will You Actually Be Able to Do After This Book?

• Pinyin is your best friend. Every new character and word is shown with its pinyin (the phonetic system using the Roman alphabet) and tone marks. You won’t be thrown into the deep end.
• Realistic dialogues. Each lesson starts with a short dialogue (2-4 lines) between people in common situations: saying hello, talking about family, asking the time, or buying fruit.
• Vocabulary in context. You’ll learn the 150 required HSK 1 words, but never as a boring list. You learn them through sentences and examples.
• Simple grammar. Concepts like word order (Subject-Time-Place-Verb), question particles (ma, ne), and the tricky “measure words” are explained with clear, short notes.
• Characters made easy. The book introduces only the 174 most basic characters. It shows stroke order and helps you recognize radicals (the “building blocks” of Chinese characters).
