The Kiriwkiw is not a dance for the gentle. It is a dance for the unbroken. And as long as there is one person willing to stomp the earth and cry "Kiriw!" into the wind, the hawk will fly again.
The 20th century was brutal for the Kiriwkiw. Industrialization made handmade wool blankets obsolete. Young men left villages for factories in Bucharest, Budapest, or Kyiv. As the years passed, the Kiriwkiw dance continued to evolve, with new generations of dancers and choreographers contributing to its growth.
