Understanding RKI 057: A Mysterious Identifier

1. Safety First: Isolate the power source. Ensure the machine cannot be accidentally started (Lockout/Tagout).
2. Alignment: Ensure the sprockets (drive and driven) are perfectly aligned. Misalignment is the #1 cause of chain wear.
3. Routing: Drape the chain over the sprockets. Ensure the chain is not twisted (common with duplex chains).
4. Connecting: Insert the connecting link (master link). For duplex chains, ensure both rows of pins are engaged correctly.
5. Secure: Install the spring clip (or cotter pin) on the master link. The open end of the clip must face the direction opposite to chain travel.
6. Tensioning: Adjust the chain tension. A general rule is to allow for approximately 2% to 4% of the center distance as sag (slack) on the non-tight side.
