Upapada Lagna Calculator May 2026
Upapada Lagna (UL) is a specialized "Arudha" (reflection) of the 12th house in Vedic Astrology. While your main Lagna (Ascendant) represents you, the Upapada Lagna represents your , the nature of your , and your in-laws. 1. How to Calculate Upapada Lagna
Let ( D = B - A ) (mod 12). If ( D < 0 ), add 12. Upapada Lagna Calculator
Quick checklist for an Upapada reading
- Identify the natal lagna (Ascendant) sign and the degree within that sign.
- Identify the 12th house from the natal lagna (counting signs). Note its sign and the degree of the planet(s) or simply use the sign position.
- Find the degree of the lord of the 12th house (if a planet sits in 12th, its degree; if not, use the cusp degree concept described next).
- Add the degree of the Ascendant (in degrees within its sign, 0–30) to the degree of the 12th-house-lord (0–30). If using a planet in the 12th, use that planet’s exact degree in that sign; if using house cusp degrees, use cusp-degree of 12th (equal to Ascendant degree if using whole-sign cusps).
- Subtract 30 repeatedly until the result is within 0–30. The resulting degree locates the Upapada within a sign — to find which sign, move forward from the 7th house sign (some practitioners count from the 7th; others from Ascendant — see variants below). The most common modern rule: place the resulting degree in the 7th-house sign from the natal Lagna (i.e., Upapada falls in that sign at the computed degree).
- Convert that degree and sign to the corresponding nakshatra (lunar mansion) and Pada (quarter) for more nuanced interpretation.
If the result lands in the 1st or 7th house from the original house (12th), you must shift it 10 houses forward. Why This Point Matters Upapada Lagna (UL) is a specialized "Arudha" (reflection)
